Goodness - part of the FruitIntroductionGoodness is the sixth component of the fruit of the Spirit. It comes as part of a package, which God is willing to grow from within us. God is full of all goodness, showing as much of it as He can, and He is wanting us to receive this goodness, and pass it on to others. This results in life changing results, as we will see. God’s GoodnessAbout 6000 years ago, God created a perfect world, with beauty and symmetry, and when beholding His finished masterpiece, He said it was very good. I am sure we can appreciate how special it must have been. After sin entered into the world, the Israelite nation became slaves of the Egyptians a few thousand years BC. God later delivered the Israelites from the Egyptians, showing His goodness. Moses beheld a portion the Lord’s goodness, and He saw grace, mercy, longsuffering, forgiveness, and the visiting of iniquity. We see the greatest and clearest picture of goodness when God willingly gave His Son’s life for the saving of you and me! And we know that the place God is preparing for us is beyond description! This is the goodness of God. We know that our God is good. Our GoodnessThe Bible’s description of our own human goodness, does not paint a very hopeful picture. God writes about our goodness as if it is fog. It’s there in the morning, but the next minute, it’s all gone! Our goodness is as mud and trash. It amounts to worse than nothing. But does this leave us without hope? The GoodnewsOnce we understand we have no goodness in ourselves, we see that God’s goodness (grace, mercy, longsuffering, forgiveness and judgement) is what leads us to turn around and make a new start. Our selfish ways brought forth badness, but after we turn, we are lead to see that God can produce His goodness in us! “God is faithful, He will do it!” That’s a promise. We read in the Bible that Gideon, Hezekiah and Josiah had true goodness, and in Romans, Paul says that the Romans were full of goodness! How did they get this? Our ResponseOur job is to turn from our selfish life and wicked ways. Realising that we can’t do this ourselves, we need to ask God to give us the power to overcome evil in our lives. Ask the Holy Spirit into your life to bring out the fruit you can bear. If you do not continue in God’s goodness, He will cut you off. This is serious, and is why God has written so much to us, in His Word. Get into God’s Word, and read the benefits He is offering you. Turn to God and you will be a tool in glorifying the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, leading others to follow goodness, and be saved. Time is short, and Jesus will be back shortly. Don’t hesitate. Continue in God’s goodness. Add your comments to this page here ... |
